International Day Of Older Persons is a day that was created by the United Nations to raise awareness about issues that affect the elderly, such as senescence, elder abuse, and the lack of proper care for people in their golden years. This day is observed annually on October 1st and every year there’s a specific theme created for it.
The city of Leeds promotes and celebrates IDOP each year in October to promote:
a positive view of old age
older people being enabled to lead active healthy and involved lives as citizens
full participation of older people in the decisions and processes which affect their lives
challenging the barriers faced by older people to independence, inclusion and equality
The theme for 2022 is: the resilience and contributions of older women.
The celebration of International Day of Older Persons for us is extremely important as we fight to ensure older people particularly in bowls are not discriminated against and have access to healthy, outdoor exercise that is crown green bowling. We want to create awareness and empathy regarding the well being of the elderly and the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle.
We are inviting the community to celebrate with us for the first day of the winter programme on 7th October between 11:30-2:30pm. To participate, spectate, have a natter if that is what you want to do, come and say hello and celebrate women in bowls today.
WE ARE PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN MAKING A SHORT VIDEO TO DEMONSTRATE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF BOWLS SO ARE LOOKING TO INTERVIEW BOWLERS
There will be a FREE buffet for all and refreshments available to purchase.
